Eurail Announces New European Rails of Peace Project |
|
Eurail Group G.I.E., in cooperation with the Youth Mobility Fund, has announced its support for the Third European Rails of Peace project. The Eurail Group, based in the Netherlands, manages the InterRail Pass, on behalf of its member railways, enabling Europeans to explore the continent by train. |
Forty-five young people have been selected to participate in this year's peace initiative, based on their academic achievements and motivation. These students will soon depart for their trip, which will be far removed from the average summer excursion. Instead the group, made up of youths from Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Italy, Kosovo and Serbia, will be travelling as part of the European Rails of Peace Project, organised by The Glocal Forum and Viaggi e Liberta.
The European Rails of Peace project is an itinerant youth exchange with a particular focus on promoting intercultural dialogue and European awareness among youth aged 18-25 from different ethnic communities in Bosnia, Serbia and Kosovo, as well as among these youth and their contemporaries from EU countries. Participants are encouraged to connect with each other and peers from communities previously engaged in conflict by sharing experiences and dialogue.
The project consists of a series of peace building workshops and training activities, starting in Rome (July 15-16) and Siena (July 17-18), Italy. The group will then continue by rail to Belgium for workshops in Leuven (July 21) and Brussels (July 22), all hosted by the respective Municipalities. To further expand the reach of the project, American students form the Lorenzo de' Medici University will also participate in the Rome section of the tour. The participants have all been awarded InterRail Global Passes to facilitate travel between venues.
The InterRail Global Pass, valid in 30 participating countries, enables travellers to enjoy the diversity of Europe's rail system. From modern high speed trains, getting you from city-to-city quickly and efficiently, to slower local trains, allowing users to appreciate the stunning scenery, InterRail offers a unique experience to all. With over 40,000 railway stations across vibrant cities and rural towns there are countless travel opportunities.
As well as the InterRail Global Pass, Eurail Group offers a wide range of InterRail Passes for single country travel. For more information and to purchase visit http://www.InterRailnet.com or contact a rail travel agent or participating Railway company.
